Family Weekend


Family weekend is an excellent opportunity to visit your student and experience life at LR.

ALERT: All Family Weekend Events Canceled
Due to weather-related impacts from Hurricane Helene, all Family Weekend events have been canceled. For the latest storm updates, visit the storm updates webpage.

Family Weekend 2024 will be Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 28-29 (events scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27 are canceled). For updates, join the LR Parents and Families Facebook group.

  • Friday, September 27 (Friday Events Canceled Due to Weather)

    ALERT: Due to stormy weather related to Hurricane Helene, all Family Weekend events scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27 are canceled. The Family Weekend check-in/registration process will now move to Saturday, Sept. 28. All Saturday and Sunday events will remain the same. 

    Check-in and Registration - Now Scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28
    3-7 p.m. | Cromer Center Lobby
    Check-in for the full schedule, your name tag, meal tickets and other information.

    Friends of LR Fair
    4-6 p.m. | Cromer Center Lobby
    After you check-in, stay around to meet and mingle with Friends of LR. Local businesses will be on campus to offer special discounts and promotions to students, provide informational resources and host giveaways. Many Friends of LR offer deals for students with an LR ID.

    Dinner and Bingo*
    5-6:30 p.m. | Cromer Center Dining Hall
    Join us for a Dinner & Bingo event in the Cromer Center Dining Hall. Start Family Weekend off right with chances for good food, fun and prizes.

    Check-In and Registration
    8:30-10 a.m. | Cromer Center Lobby
    If you didn’t check in for Family Weekend on Friday, please come to the Cromer Center Lobby on Saturday morning to collect your schedule, name tags and meal tickets.

    Explore Hickory
    All Day
    Check out why Hickory was named by Travel and Leisure magazine as the most beautiful and affordable place to live in the United States. Visit some of our amazing amenities like the Hickory City Walk, Downtown Farmers Market and Union Square, SALT Block and Henry River Mill Village. Be sure to stop by and visit some Friends of LR.

    Start your day off right with breakfast in the dining hall. Meal tickets will be provided in your packets. 

    Coffee with the President's Cabinet*
    9-10 a.m. | Cromer Banquet Room

    Family Tailgate and Corn Hole*
    10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. | Russell Lawn
    Show your prowess in cornhole by registering your family for the cornhole tournament.

    "The Chroma Collective" Performance
    11 a.m. | Hickory Museum of Art

    LR Bears vs. Tusculum Pioneers Football Game
    1 p.m. | Moretz Stadium
    Cheer on the Bears in Moretz Stadium. Registered families will receive free tickets to the football game. Note that students get in free with their ID to sit in the student section. If you want them to sit with you, you will need to purchase a ticket for them. All family members will be provided free game tickets by athletics for the game! 

    Dinner*
    5-6:30 p.m. | Cromer Center Dining Hall
    Enjoy dinner at one of Hickory’s restaurants or dine with your Bear in the Cromer Center Dining Hall. All registered guests will receive meal tickets in their packet.

    Men's Soccer vs. Wingate
    5-7 p.m. | Soccer Field
    All registered families will receive free tickets to the game.

    Women's Soccer vs. Wingate
    7:30-9:30 p.m. | Soccer Field
    All registered families will receive free tickets to the game.

    A Night of Kindness: Lauren Daigle Concert
    6-9 p.m. | L. P. Frans Stadium
    Singer-songwriters Lauren Daigle, Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors and Ginny Owens are uniting for a special night of music you won’t want to miss. A Night of Kindness is presented by The Art of Compassion, Lenoir-Rhyne and Imagine One Hospitality. Tickets are available at The Art of Compassion.

    Brunch*
    9-10 a.m. | Cromer Center Dining Hall
    Join your Bear for Sunday brunch in our dining hall. All registered guests will receive meal tickets in their packet.

    Open Chapel
    10-11 a.m. | Grace Chapel
    Campus Pastor Todd Cutter will lead an informal ecumenical worship service in Grace Chapel to close out our family weekend festivities.
