Housing

When you live on campus, you are steps away from everything LR has to offer. Classes, friends, facilities and services are all within walking distance. Plus, you will experience living with others who share the same academic goals. You will find a fun, caring community and a sense of acceptance.

Explore our virtual campus tour to learn more about our campus and LR housing options for first-year and upperclassman students.

  • New Student Housing

All new incoming students will receive an email from the Residence Life Office once the student has a valid Lenoir-Rhyne email address established. The email from the Residence Life Office will contain a link to complete the freshman or transfer housing application, depending on the student’s classification. This application needs to be completed by all incoming students, even if the student is planning to live off-campus.

Students can request a particular roommate(s) on this application. Additionally, there are questions on the application asking about roommate characteristics. If a student does not know someone they would like to live with, then these questions will help determine who students will be paired within housing.

Once the application is completed the student needs to submit the application. All housing assignments and roommate information will be sent to new incoming Fall semester students via their Lenoir-Rhyne email at the end of June/beginning of July. All first-year students beginning in the Spring semester will receive their housing assignment and roommate information via their Lenoir-Rhyne email in December.

  • Housing Assignments
    Room Assignments

The university will not discriminate in room/hall assignments. The Residence Life Contract is for residence in campus housing and not for a particular accommodation, room, hall or roommate. However, consideration is given to students' preferences and requests. The university reserves the right to assign roommates and/or to change room or hall assignments, including consolidation of occupancy as spaces are vacated.

    Room Changes

Students are allowed to make room changes at identified times. These dates are publicized through the Residence Life Staff via e-mail, postings and/or by mail. Students desiring to move to a new room must follow procedures as directed by the Residence Life Office to formally change rooms.

A student making an improper room change is subject to a fine and may be requested to return to the appropriate assigned room. The Residence Life Office must approve all room changes.

When a student is living alone in a double room, the university reserves the right to assign a second occupant to that room or to charge the student a single occupancy fee.

If one of the occupants of a room moves out or fails to enter LRU as planned, the remaining occupant must do the following.

    • Accept another roommate, if the university has one to assign
    • Select a new roommate from the same residence hall who also does not have a roommate
    • Move into a new room in the same residence hall with a student who also does not have a roommate
    • Pay the additional cost to keep the room as a single room. This option may not be available if other students are in need of campus housing. Because freshmen live in either Morgan or Isenhour, they do not have the option to pay for a single room.

Residents without roommates may be reassigned to another room.

  • Housing Contracts
    Contract

The residence hall contract is for the entire academic year, through the end of the spring semester. The residence hall contract obligates the student to live in the residence hall for the entire academic year, or if entered into after the start of the fall semester, for the remainder of the academic year. The summer term is regarded as a separate agreement.

Students may occupy an assigned space from the date designated as the official opening of campus housing to the date designated as the official date and time of the residence hall closing. Residents are to vacate their rooms no later than 24 hours after their last exam each semester. Graduating students residing in the residence halls will be provided housing through commencement without additional charge.

    Termination of the Contract

If enrollment at the university is terminated for any reason during the course of an academic term, the resident must vacate the assigned room and residence hall within 24 hours.

Similarly, if the university decides to terminate the residence life contract for disciplinary reasons, the resident must move out of the assigned room and residence hall within 24 hours. Violations of residence hall or university policies are considered sufficient grounds for immediate termination of the residence life contract and removal from the residence halls.

    Cancellation of the Contract

Students not required to live on campus or not enrolling in the university must notify the Residence Life Office in writing by June 30 to cancel this agreement. Contracts canceled between June 30 and August 1 will be assessed a $200 fine. Contracts canceled after August 1 or during the academic year will be assessed a $600 fine.

  • Student Housing Safety

The Lenoir-Rhyne campus is monitored 24/7 by well-trained public security officers who do regular patrols of campus to ensure the safety of all Lenoir-Rhyne students.

All residence halls on campus are equipped with a card swipe or passcode. Students are only given access to their particular residence halls to confirm that only people who live in the building are guaranteed access.

In each residence hall, there is a resident assistant (RA) on every floor that serves as a student resource. Additionally, each residence hall has a residence director (RD) who is a graduate student at the university who oversees the resident assistants in the building. Resident directors and resident assistants, help ensure the safety of the building and are trained to handle a multitude of situations.
