Update on Lenoir-Rhyne Board of Trustees action and alumni day format.

Grace and peace from the Columbia Campus. And Happy Easter to everybody.

Weeks ago, when we first shared the news about the seminary’s relocation to the Hickory campus, we said that the move would not be official until the LR board of trustees voted at its March meeting.

That vote took place last week and it was unanimously approved. The Board explored several matters surrounding the journey of LTSS from Columbia to Hickory during the Q&A session. The Board and Administration reaffirmed their commitment to care for the students, faculty, staff, community and ecumenical partners in this process, while we attend to the responsibilities that are both fiduciary and necessary with respect to our two accrediting bodies, the Church and wider the LTSS community.

Following their action, we are entering the phase of tending to the logistics of this move. This is a complex undertaking. As you can imagine, there is a lot to be done and I look forward to sharing more about the process in the coming weeks.

But for now, I think it is important to remember that while classes will commence in January 2025, we do not need to have addressed all the questions about the physical space, the property and assets, in Columbia by then. We will take the time necessary to ensure we are thoughtful and careful about these decisions, and do it in conversation with community stakeholders and the LTSS/LR family.

What I want to share today is that in a few short weeks, we will gather for Alumni Day and our day of giving. As you might imagine, interest in this year’s Alumni Day is high and we already have more than 80 guests registered. We also have made a few changes to the day’s schedule.

  • We will shift from a seated lunch to a casual BBQ/picnic on the Quad. This great idea came from our alumni, and will allow more opportunities to enjoy the fellowship together.
  • For that reason, the recognition of classes and the Bedenbaugh Award presentation to the Rev. Susan Crowell from the Class of 1995 will take place during the chapel service.
  • And finally, we have added a session in the afternoon about the transition. This forum will be an opportunity to hear updates, ask questions and share your memories. I will host and moderate this forum, And Dr. Whitt and other colleagues will be present to join in the conversation.
  • I believe it will be a wonderful day to celebrate all our alumni, and this place that we all hold dear.

Thank you for continuing to check our LTSS Future webpage for the most current and accurate information and updates.

And as we continue on this pilgrimage, let’s continue in the wisdom of Hebrews 10:23-25, let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, 25 not neglecting to meet together, but encouraging one another...

Peace friends,

Rev. Dr. Chad Rimmer
