Monica Campbell

Monica Campbell serves as the chairperson of the School of Education. She teaches the foundations of reading and classroom management courses in the elementary education program, which is one of only 15 in the country to receive an A+ rating for its ability to produce highly qualified reading teachers. In addition to these roles, Campbell directs the Lenoir-Rhyne University Literacy Center. 

Campbell’s research focuses on effective practices for teaching striving readers and students with exceptionalities. She has co-authored a reading program for primary-age students entitled Early Reading Tutor, which SRA publishes. Additional publications include research on multisensory instruction and treatment resisters.

In 2017, Campbell received the Raymond Morris Bost Distinguished Professor Award, given annually to honor an LR faculty member for outstanding teaching and mentorship. She also earned the Lenoir-Rhyne Faculty Scholar Award, which is presented to the faculty member who has made the greatest contribution to his/her discipline during the academic year.
